Penheale Home Farm researched the implications of going organic for a full 12 months before starting conversion in 1999 and finally achieving organic status in 2001
Simon Oates, the farm manager, was very sceptical about converting to organic but is now delighted with the results
|
Since going organic, milk yield has gone up from an average of 8,000 litres per cow per year to 9,000 litres
The cows are much calmer and Simon puts this down to them being contented – reflected by the increased milk production
